Providing Growth & Opportunity
Authorized by the state legislature, the urban renewal (redevelopment) law is a program designed to rebuild and improve Idaho cities. Using special financing authority, redevelopment agencies like the Lake City Development Corporation (LCDC) help communities redevelop areas which are deteriorated or lack needed public improvements, such as streets, utilities, and streetscaping. In addition to being unsightly, these areas often impose a burden on city services and can be costly to taxpayers.
More than two dozen Idaho cities, including Boise, Pocatello, and Post Falls, have created redevelopment districts since the Local Economic Development Act became law in 1987.
